The ‘Cyberpunk 2077 Online’ I want to play

[ad_1]

Hiding deep in the code for Cyberpunk 2077 is an indication that some sort of online multiplayer component is coming to the game in the future. It’s a left turn from the original plan, a standalone Cyberpunk multiplayer game, but indicates that 2077 may have some sort of online component going forward that isn’t that.

This is… exciting for me. It’s something that I really want to see, because I want a reason to stay in Night City, especially if the game is going to continue to improve and pursue its original potential. And when I think about the idea of Cyberpunk 2077 Online, here’s what I’d like to get out of it:

Coop, not PvP

If we talk about what’s in the realm of plausibility here, I don’t see Cyberpunk 2077 attempting to balance the game for PvP for an online mode and would likely stick with co-op play. I don’t even know how something like a hack version could even work well there, and I think it would be a huge waste of time to create a PvP section of the game. Maybe in the future of the franchise? Of course, but not in this game.

Criminal farms, gang strongholds

Obviously, an essential component of the game would be traveling the world, killing heaps of criminals and corporate soldiers. Right now these Crimes and Strongholds go away when they get cleared, but it’s easy to see how you can set them up to respawn so they can be farmed for loot, cash, or more, solo or with a friend. Add new clusters beyond the base campaign, and there would be plenty to do.

End of fashion party

In my mind, an important part of a Cyberpunk 2077 online mode would be not just getting power, but buying some cool upgrades for your V. So I’d love to see A) a lot more options. clothing, B) a way to preview them options before you buy them, C) a plastic surgeon / barber to modify your face and hair (and more options up for grabs) and D) Ripperdocs who can modify you with cybernetic coins for greater body diversity. Add in a transmog system to let you watch the way you want while having the stats and perks you want, and we’re golden.

A new power system

I would add a new leveling layer on top of the ones we already have for current Street Reps / XP, multiplayer specific. This can range from unlocking bonuses for co-op play to a Diablo-like paragon system for minor stat boosts. Exceeding the current limits would also be good for unlocking additional perks and building options.

Houses to customize, businesses to manage

Going into GTA Online territory a bit, I’d like to see more houses or apartments that can be purchased and customized by V as a way to work towards something. You could also have a light “business” aspect where you save for stores (Ripperdocs, gun stores) that can earn you passive income.

Car and racing customization

The customization of the car is a no-brainer and should have been in the game from the start, with a garage-like system where you can view your collection and modify it. Racing mechanics and AI are something Cyberpunk would need a tonne work on which you know if you have done the racing quests in the base game. But if they could figure it out, it could be a lot of fun.

These are just the basics, but it would be enough to get me to play and earn some new loot and money. However, we’ll see if that ever happens.
