Wizards of the Coast has announced that its remaining 2021 Dungeons & Dragons the books will see their release dates slightly pushed back. Treasure of the Fizban Dragons will see its release date pushed back a week to October 26, 2021, while Strixhaven: A Chaos Program will see its release date pushed back three weeks to December 7, 2021. This will impact both physical and digital versions.
Wizards of the Coast previously announced that its next Expansion Rules gift set will be released in January 2022 instead of the originally slated holiday 2021 release date. This book set contains three books, including the new one Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse compendium.
Many industries have experienced delays and disruption caused by a global shipping crisis and widespread resource shortages. The book industry has been particularly affected in part due to printing capacity issues compounding supply chain problems caused by the pandemic. Several experts have noted that larger books – such as gift books, box sets, art books, and coffee table books – are particularly affected by the current wave of shortages.
Fizban’s Dragon Treasure is a new rulebook that greatly expands the lore and number of dragons usable in Dungeons & Dragons Fifth edition. Not only does the book contain two new subclasses and new dragon sub-race variants, but the book also contains dozens of new stat blocks for different types of dragons and dragon-related monsters. New magic items, feats and spells are also included in the game, all themed around dragons. Treasure of the Fizban Dragons also introduces a new dragon classification – the great wyrm, which is even more powerful than an ancient dragon.
Strixhaven: A Chaos Study Program, meanwhile, is a campaign book detailing the Magic School of Strixhaven, which first appeared in the Magic: The Gathering set of the same name. This book not only provides players with the tools they need to join one of the school’s five colleges, it also adds new social mechanics on the topic of school activities and daily life. A full adventure covering a four-year stay at school is included in the book.
