Paizo announces Pathfinder Infinite and Starfinder Infinite release program

Paizo has announced a new release program that will allow RPG designers to use Scout and Star finder IP in their own adventures and published RPG supplements. Paizo announced the Pathfinder Infinite and Starfinder Infinite programs, a new editorial collaboration with DriveThruRPG that enables third-party content to be delivered using the characters, creatures and settings of the Scout and Star finder role-playing games on the table. “Starting October 13, 2021, content creators will be able to sell adventure, fiction, scenery additions, rule expansions, maps, art packs and more using Paizo’s intellectual property.” , wrote Mark Moreland, director of branding for Paizo in a blog post about the announcement. “This means that you can, for the first time, write an RPG supplement in the official settings of Pathfinder or Starfinder that references our locations, organizations, characters, deities and more, and sell it to your fellow gamers and GMs. “

The new publishing initiative is similar to the DMs Guild program used by Wizards of the Coast, which allows small RPG studios and individuals to publish material using Dungeons & Dragons IP on a website operated by DriveThruRPG. DriveThruRPG and Wizards of the Coast collectively retain 50% of all sales of DMs Guild material, with the publishers of the material retaining the remaining 50% of the sales proceeds. The Pathfinder and Starfinder Infinite programs will operate with a similar 50/50 revenue split. Other RPG publishers have similar community content publishing initiatives, which allow individuals and small newspaper publishers to use their intellectual property in exchange for a share of the revenue.

The DM Guild has become a popular source of third-party material for Dungeons & Dragons since its launch and also acts as a sort of talent incubator for Wizards of the Coast, as Wizards regularly hires creators from DMs Guild as freelance writers for their posts.

Notably, the Pathfinder Infinite program supports both Scout 1E and Scout 2E material and there are fewer restrictions on what IP creators can use when posting material to Pathfinder Infinite or Starfinder Infinite vs.DM Guild (Wizards of the Coast only allows material from ‘a handful of campaign settings, with settings like Dragonlance, Spelljammer, and Falconry Out of Bounds.)

You can get more information about the Pathfinder Infinite and Starfinder Infinite programs by signing up for their newsletter. The program will officially launch on October 13.
