“Devil May Cry” is one of Capcom’s most beloved franchises, known for its flashy combat and cool characters. The series follows demon hunter Dante on his daredevil escapades against the forces of hell and his enigmatic brother Virgil. A hallmark of “Devil May Cry,” aside from Dante himself, is its unique style, which seeps into every part of the experience. The music, dialogue, and combat all share an elegance that makes “Devil May Cry” a true classic video game franchise. Now, Netflix is looking to bring that same energy into an animated adaptation.
Adi Shankar is clearly a powerful workhorse for Netflix, not only producing ‘Castlevania’ and ‘Captain Laserhawk’, but also spearheading the ‘Devil May Cry’ anime. Details have been scarce, but in a November 2021 interview with IGN, Shankar gave fans an update on where the series is at. He said the script for Season 1 was done and they were telling a “rad” story that would take place over multiple seasons. Shankar also confirmed that Dante, Virgil and Lady will be in the series.
This isn’t the first time the title has been given the anime treatment: Madhouse’s “Devil May Cry: The Animated Series” dropped in 2007 but only lasted one season. Shankar is clearly hoping to top this show and make “Devil May Cry” a staple title on the streamer.
