The Witcher 4 won’t be about Geralt (but could be Star Ciri)
CD Projekt Red sometimes goes back and forth to find out where they are with the next one Witcher game and what they want it to look like, but one thing that’s been pretty consistent is their insistence that they be done with Geralt’s story. While this was probably pretty obvious to those who played the Blood and wine extension, various Projekt Red CDs made it clear that they were seeing the first three Witcher games like a trilogy about Geralt and that any potential future project will likely go in another direction.
While they kept things general enough to leave room for a variety of possibilities, the most likely star of any major future Witcher games must be Ciri. Not only was Ciri’s story clearly unresolved by the end of The Witcher 3, but several CD Projekt Red developers have said Ciri is their favorite character.
Of course, the team might just decide to focus entirely on a new witcher, but again, it’s far too early to do anything other than speculate on the details of their plans for the future of this franchise’s narrative.
Cyberpunk 2077 issues likely won’t significantly delay The Witcher 4
Without discussing the details of the Cyberpunk 2077 Drama yet again, let’s just say that the launch of the highly anticipated game in 2020 didn’t quite go as planned. As we speak, CD Projekt Red is working hard (supposedly) to fix Cyberpunk 2077 and eventually get to a point where they feel like they’ll be able to post new content for it. So, will all this post-release work delay progress on the next Witcher Thu?
Well, a CD Projekt Red strategy report shared via Twitter earlier this year reveals that the studio intends to begin “parallel triple A development” on two major franchises starting in 2022. As you can see from ‘after the images they chose, these franchises are almost certainly The witcher and Cyberpunk.
