There was never any doubt that Final Fantasy 14 would allow you to get your own Chocobo. These majestic birds are one of the most iconic and recognizable features of the Final Fantasy franchise, and they play an important role in Eorzea. They are used for transportation, as livestock and even in combat.
While the Chocobo is just one of the many mounts you can acquire in the game, it’s likely to be the one you’ll have the most affection for. This is especially true as it helps you navigate through thick and thin, fighting alongside you.
How to get your own chocobo
To get your own Chocobo, you need to have progressed enough through the main storyline questline.
After completing the level 20 quest A hero in the making at Waking Sands (X: 6, Y: 6), you will be prompted to choose one of three different major companies to join. There are quests for each of them that allow you to join this Great Company, and you must complete one before you can get a Chocobo.
For Immortal Flames, this quest is For the room and the country, for the Maelstrom it is Until the sea swallows it all, and for Twin Adder it is The will of the wood will be done. Once you have completed one of them, you can take the quest My little chocobo – but the location will vary depending on the Great Company you have joined.
Great Company | NPC | Place |
---|---|---|
Immortal flames | Quick | Ul’dah – Nald Steps (x: 8, y: 8) |
Maelstrom | R’ashaht Rhiki | Upper Limsa Lominsa Bridges (x: 13.1, y: 12.8) |
Twin adder | Vorsail Heuloix | New Gridania (x: 9, y: 11) |
This quest is really easy to complete. You must purchase a Chocobo show from the local Quartermaster and must take it to a certain NPC to get your Chocobo.
The issue costs 200 seals of the Great Company. You can acquire these Seals in a number of ways, the easiest being certain Duty Casters, certain Large Company Levels, Fates, and Supply Missions in each Large Company Headquarters.
Once you have your Chocobo Issuance and have delivered it to the correct NPC, you will be prompted to name your Chocobo. At the end of this quest, however, you will get a Chocobo whistle which you can use to add your Chocobo to your mount collection. You will also get the My little chocobo success.
REMARK: You can rename your Chocobo and change its coloring at the end of the quest that allows your Chocobo to participate in battles.
How to make your chocobo fight
Once level 30 is reached, you will have the opportunity to transform your Chocobo into a combat companion. To do this, head to the South Shroud (X: 17, Y: 28) to find Docette and the My Feisty Little Chocobo quest. The early stages of the quest require you to go and find gysahl greens for Luquelot, who will then walk you through the ins and outs of combat alongside your Chocobo.
To summon your Chocobo to your side, all you need to do is use a green gysahl. However, these only work for a limited time, so keep an eye out for the timer next to your Chocobo’s name – that’s how much time is left before it’s gone. You can use another gysahl green to extend the timer before it expires.
The last part of this quest is to simply beat a Brooding Ziz with your summoned Chocobo. Once done, you have definitely unlocked this feature and must constantly take out your Chocobo during fights in the overworld in order to upgrade it.
Gysahl Greens cost just 36 Gil and can be purchased anywhere in the world. Below is a table of the most convenient places to find them.

The quest that unlocks theft is called I Believe I Can Fly and start in Foundation (X: 7, Y: 11) after talking to Arnoulain. This quest involves teaching your Chocobo to fly by fighting clouds of Dravanian bees with him in the Dravanian forlands.
