Lost Ark dungeons are the main late game activity and you will get familiar with leveling up your items. Chaos Dungeons are single-player dungeons that reward you with Lost Ark engravings, rare currency, and high-level gear – though you’re limited on how many times you can run them. Abyssal Dungeons are teamwork and the best way to get rare accessories to boost your engravings.
This guide explains how to unlock both dungeon types and the item levels you need for each, plus some handy tips for completing the toughest challenges.
You want a good Lost Ark class and a solid build for both challenge types. Be sure to use the Powerpass if you have any regrets about your initial class choice so you can start racing without going through the story again. Unlocking your Awakening skills before you start is also a good idea, although it will take a bit of effort and several hours to get them.
How to Unlock Chaos Dungeons in Lost Ark
Chaos Dungeons unlock after completing the main storyline, completing the Ealyn’s Request questline, and after reaching level 50. If you’re not at that level yet, take some late-game side quests or grind a few dungeons for some extra XP. After completing the Ealyun questline, you get your first Powerpass and the ability to run Chaos Dungeons – to some extent.

Similar to Guardian Raids, you can only run a Chaos Dungeon once you’ve met the initial item level requirements. Chaos Dungeons are the main way to get high-level engravings, items for other endgame activities, and level-up gear to increase your item level. Expect to run them multiple times.
You can access Chaos Dungeons by finding the yellow pedestal in most major towns.
How Lost Ark Chaos Dungeons Work
Lost Ark limits you to completing two Chaos Dungeons per day thanks to the Aura of Resonance system. You have 100 Aura each day and completing a Chaos Dungeon consumes 50 Aura. Technically, you can still complete Chaos Dungeons once your Aura runs out. However, you get almost no reward for it, which makes the exercise pretty pointless.
Also, like Guardian Raids, Chaos Dungeons have their own rest meter. For every 50 unused Resonance Aura points, you get ten rest points. You can consume 20 rest points to increase the amount of loot obtained in the next Chaos Dungeon run and the counter caps out at 100 rest points.
Chaos Dungeons are more difficult the more people you have in your party, and most players generally recommend tackling them alone to avoid facing stronger monsters and bosses.
Regardless of level or location, Chaos Dungeons all follow the same format. Each dungeon has three phases and a specific objective to complete before time runs out. Clearing the objective resets the timer for the next phase, so you usually have enough time to complete them.
Chaos Dungeon Phase 1: Eliminate all enemies
The first phase is simply defeating enemies until they stop respawning. AoE attacks are the natural choice for this, so prioritize a build that gives you at least some strong moves. Try to group enemies together as much as possible so you don’t waste time hunting them down individually. Jump through the portal as soon as you can to reach the next phase.
Chaos Dungeon Phase 2: defeat the bosses
The next stage pits you against a miniboss and then a world boss. Bring your most powerful skills for this phase and cast an awakening skill if you have already unlocked them.
Chaos Dungeon Phase 3: Shatter the Crystals
Phase 3 also requires you to defeat minibosses, but they only appear after breaking Rift Crystals scattered around the arena.
You will sometimes see a golden portal instead of the usual one. Entering it takes you to the Chaos Vendor, where you can buy rare and useful items, including Harmony Shards. The vendor only takes Perception Shards, Clutter Crystals, and their higher level variants as currency.
Lost Ark Chaos Dungeon Rewards
Once you clear a dungeon, you get a cache of loot, including Harmony Shards, Ability Stones, and more.

Abyssal Dungeons work a little differently. You need to party with other players for these, and like Guardian Raids, the objective is to defeat a specific set of bosses. Unlike Guardian Raids, Abyssal Dungeons are the primary way to increase your item level once you reach level 50. You have a chance to earn higher level gear with each completed Abyssal Dungeon, and in outside of crafting, it’s one of the only ways to progress. at the end of the game.
