Amazon’s Twitch streaming platform has surpassed player counts over the years, but one of the most popular Rockstar games has gained attention in 2021. Grand Theft Auto 5 managed to become the most watched game on Twitch this year according to the platform’s analytics.
The most watched Twitch game each year is something that many people consider to be the most entertaining game of the year because it shows how many people are actively participating in it rather than just playing it. According to Rainmaker.gg and StreamElements’ State of the Stream 2021 report, Twitch viewers have flocked to Grand Theft Auto 5 be it xQc, MontanaBlack88 or Summit1G playing the game. Twitch’s overall audience also increased in 2021 by 1.3 billion hours viewed, reaching 2.1 billion total hours watched from 764 million.
One of the things that is a clear factor in Grand Theft Auto 52021 hit is the number of popular Twitch livestreamers playing Grand Theft Auto Online. Specifically, many of these streamers took GTA Online role-playing game on the Nopixel server created more than five years ago. While viewership has improved significantly on Twitch compared to last year, the loss of Twitch streamers popular ones like TimtheTatman and Dr Lupo could impact certain times of the next year by increasing YouTube.
Grand Theft Auto Online recently saw the addition of The Contract story DLC, bringing a lot of new content to the game and potentially increasing viewership when it releases. The Rockstar Games title also became the most popular multimedia product in 2018 and its improved Twitch audience from previous years shows the longevity of Grand Theft Auto 5. Although it is not clear at the moment how much longer RGT fans must wait for the next title in the series, Rockstar Games is releasing an updated version of GTA 5 for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S early next year.
