Final Fantasy XIV Delays Endwalker Expansion Release Until December 7

Those who look forward to Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker we may have to wait a little longer. That’s because Square Enix delayed the release of the new expansion to December 7, and for good reason.

Endwalker is the game’s fourth expansion. Production had actually been delayed due to the pandemic. Still, the planned changes and new content was something the community was excited to find out about. Initially, it was due out on November 23.

Anyway, then why the change? In an article, producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed that while it was clear that this upcoming expansion was indeed a huge undertaking, they continued with development and the plan to get it done in time for the original release date. He shared that by playing through it all, he wasn’t able to contain his “desire to improve further. Endwalkerthe quality.

He added that the entire team was determined to make the necessary adjustments, even in the smallest nuances, to ensure that the writing could cover the finer points of the story that spans more than a decade. Because of this, Yoshida said it resulted in a situation where they “reduced the time required for final QA checks due to that time spent on further improvements.”

This meant that there was a risk that they would reach the release date without ensuring the “stability” of the game. Yoshida said that was the reason he made the decision to postpone the release.

Considering this is a two week deadline, it really doesn’t make much of a difference when you think about it. That didn’t stop Yoshida from apologizing and stating that he “never postponed a previously announced release date.” He continued that he was even torn between reducing the volume or releasing the content in installments just to get it on time since players had already made arrangements. He even went so far as to say that it was his “selfishness” that caused the delay. He then asked forgiveness for that.

The delay was revealed during a stream, and you can watch part of the actual announcement below:

With the delay, the new schedule is listed below:
