A Final Fantasy fan is paying homage to Final Fantasy 15 with a bespoke PS4 controller featuring two of the game’s most recognizable characters.
Final Fantasy 15 is one of the most controversial games of all Final Fantasy franchise. Many have criticized the RPG for its unrealized potential and development issues dating back to 2006 with Final Fantasy Versus XIII. However, Final Fantasy 15 was well received by many fans after the release of DLC and major updates. In tribute to Final Fantasy 15a Reddit user decided to work on a fascinating custom controller for PlayStation 4.
Set in the world of Eos, Final Fantasy 15 explores the story of Noctis Lucis Caelum, the crown prince and heir to the throne of Lucis. Alongside three loyal companions, Noctis sets out on a journey to Altissia to marry his bride, Lunafreya of the Imperial Province of Tenebrae. The adventure takes a dark turn when Noctis’ homeland, Insomnia, is attacked under a fake peace treaty.
Reddit user u/Fit-Raisin-5824 created a Final Fantasy 15– themed custom controller for PS4, which pays homage to Noctis and Lunafreya. The PS4 controller is split by strong shades of dark blue and white to symbolize the differences between the two characters. The contrasting colors come together in the middle of the controller with a gold PlayStation button and a touchpad with the Final Fantasy 15 Yoshitaka Amano’s logo. The buttons and edges of the custom PS4 controller are adorned with golden shades.
The concept behind the custom controller was to stick with games that best represented the PS4 platform, according to u/Fit-Raisin-5824. Final Fantasy 15 was one of the most anticipated games of the PS4 generation, and Japanese RPGs were generally preferred on PlayStation hardware at the time. As a result, the user saw Final Fantasy 15 as a worthy candidate for a custom controller.
The PS4 is one of the most beloved platforms of all time, and the Final Fantasy 15 controller pays great homage to gaming and console. Although Final Fantasy 15 had a cross-platform release, many gamers considered PlayStation to be the home of the Final Fantasy series since Final Fantasy 7 in 1997. Final Fantasy 15 was a polarizing title, but the legacy can live on positively through fan-made creations like u/Fit-Raisin-5824’s custom controller.
Since the release of Final Fantasy 15, the franchise has grown in success and expectations as well. Fans eagerly await games such as Final Fantasy 7 Revival and Final Fantasy 16, which are major new titles with high expectations from fans. Thankfully, it looks like Square Enix has learned from its mistakes with Final Fantasy 15 and the series will thrive for many years to come.
Final Fantasy 15 is available now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
