Sony has officially announced its next State of Play presentation, which is set to take place on June 2 at 3:00 p.m. PT/5:00 p.m. CT. Unfortunately, for those hoping for a God of War: Ragnarok trailer there, it seems incredibly unlikely. Sony has confirmed that this 30-minute inventory will focus on two things: third-party games from Sony’s partners, as well as a preview of some PS VR 2 games.
For the latter, it’s unclear what might be there as many PS VR 2 projects have been hidden away. There is a chance that PS VR 2 Horizon: The Call of the Mountain will be there, which is exciting, but perhaps the prospect with the most potential to be there is the one fans have been waiting for a long time, Final Fantasy 16.

Although there are always expectations and hopes for an inventory that do not come true properly, Final Fantasy 16 being there is more concrete than most hopes. First, when Sony talks about third-party partners, it doesn’t come much closer to a company than Square Enix. Many wouldn’t be surprised if Sony acquired Square Enix one day, but that’s a whole different ball game. The most compelling evidence of its presence there, however, comes directly from Square Enix itself.
A Final Fantasy 16 the trailer is ready and waiting in the wings. Producer Yoshi-P confirmed this a few weeks ago, also adding that the game was nearing the end of its development cycle. However, he added that he thinks the trailer will be released soon but could not explain why it hasn’t been released yet. Have a place to show off Final Fantasy 16 makes the most sense, and a June 2 state of play with third-party partners is the most likely scenario for that.
Plus, Square Enix promised fans they’d get more Final Fantasy 16 news this spring, and with the season ending June 21, it’s hard to imagine FF16 be anywhere else except for this inventory. It remains to be seen what else will be, but a new Final Fantasy 16 the trailer is about as sure of a bet as it comes.
Beyond the trailer, it will be interesting to see if FF16The release date of will be announced there. There have been rumors that Final Fantasy 16 will be released in 2022, and if it needs to confirm a date (or at least a window), now would be the time and place to do so.
