Well, there’s no E3 this year. Still. But there are summer live streams where E3 news would go! As such, the tradition of E3 predictions lives on. In the past, zoo animals might have been asked to guess game predictions for the Destructoid community, but I’m a night person and hate sunlight, so I use tarot cards instead.
This year I will be using the brand new Dungeons & Dragons Tarot. As a small review, the game is both beautiful and deeply flawed. The art is done by Fred Gissubel and reminds me a lot of the tarot drawn for dragon age but had never made a deck. For the beautiful and evocative images alone, the game is worth collecting.
It seems, however, that it was geared more towards planning DM scenarios or initiating a random event than a good traditional divination tool. The Minor Arcana combinations are a mess with nothing to distinguish a Two of Strength from a Two of Charisma. Beautiful, but sloppy in that no effort was made to tell one costume from another.
They basically forced D&D stats on suits in a way that doesn’t make sense or doesn’t fit art. For reference, Strength is Wands, Intelligence is Swords, Wisdom is Cups, and Charisma is Pentacles/Coins. Good luck figuring out who’s who without the guide.
However, I wanted to use a full deck this year, so I decided to delve into the storytelling sensibilities of this deck and referenced other tarot decks as well. Reads are single card, three card and sometimes cross.
That’s not to say more is better, I just shot the amount that was right for me.
I’ll be answering seven community questions today, with more to follow later in the week.
RLZ asks, “Will there be a big old Nintendo Direct in June?”
Card drawn: the tank
The Chariot is synonymous with dynamism, will and victory. Nintendo is like a grand old wizard – they show up precisely when they want to, usually smoking weed with fireworks and surprises.
Wait until the others are finished. They will appear before the end of June.
Vincentdante asks: Will this supposed Silent Hill game actually show up?
Cards Drawn: Inverted Three of Strength, Seven of Charisma, Wheel of Fortune
A lot of talent has diligently tried to get a silent Hill ground game and as you can see they are now tired and lying on the left. But another hope emerges and promises to bear new fruit.
But the dragon spins the wheel of fortune and he only wants one thing.
Pachinko machines, son.
Scrustle asks: Will Darksiders IV be announced?
Cards Drawn: Two of Charisma, The Lovers, Five of Intelligence
A tiefling woman sits in a living room, begging an imp to bring her a mocha and toasted almonds while she reads a romance novel.
It’s about a knight and wizard destined for adventure and falling in love. But during their quest, they find a jar with a genie inside. He only wants to sow jealousy and discord between adventures with the wishes he grants.
The genie also wants a trio early on and later conjures four horsemen for an apocalyptic orgy in the heart of Baldur’s Gate, much to the delight of the tiefling reader. She also really has a crush on Fury. She likes redheads and whips.
Looks like a maybe.
Derpunkel asks: Will (the flows) be condensed in a short time or will we see an endless drip of flow?
Card drawn: Ten of Inverted Intelligence
A young musketeer tripped and fell off a cliff. She tried to drive her blade into the cliff as she fell to save herself, but the fall seemed inevitable and so she plunged down to the deep river below.
She holds her blade tightly, firmly, and accepts his dive, but the fall goes on forever. It is eternal.
She’s crying. It starts raining. She can’t find a toilet in the free fall and so…
Endless stream. Endless Streams are now the way of things, much like “roadmaps” after a botched launch. The reversed Ten of Intelligence suggests that accepting change is sometimes for the best. Choose your feeds accordingly.
Hlarge4 asks: Will I actually be playing a video game in June, unlike in May?
Card Drawn: Ten of Inverted Wisdom
Prospects not very good. An inverted Ten of Wisdom suggests shattered dreams, like Ben Shapiro’s sex life. Or the redesign of PlayStation Plus.
Can I suggest something like Toodee & Topdee? I still haven’t finished Ring of Elden for reasons beyond me. I was so close too. I even beat Melania. Then April Final Fantasy XIV the update came and I got distracted again.
I still finished five books! I particularly appreciated Punderworld by Linda Sejic.
ZombieCorps asks: I HAVE ONLY ONE QUESTION FOR YOU! BLAST ?
Cards drawn: Two of Charisma (center), Two of Wisdom upside down (left), Queen of Intelligence (right), The World (top), Ace of Charisma (bottom)
The tiefling in the living room craves sensual outbursts. Two halflings watch from outside, hanging from the roof, possibly setting up explosions. A queen walks past the living room, turning south to meet a dwarf smith who has forged a +5 Combustion Blade for her.
She hears voices from heaven, bursting with joy, asking him to make him one of her Knights of the Detonation. She touches each of his shoulders with the blade and he rises to become Sir… and then there are just pieces of him all over the town square.
FakePlasticTree asks: When will Atlus release Persona 5 Arena?
Cards drawn: Reversed Ten of Wisdom, The Tower, Nine of Wisdom.
Oh, that was the last draw. Again, the reversed Ten of Wisdom represents broken dreams, The Tower represents mass destruction and a reversed Nine of Wisdom expresses disappointment.
It doesn’t seem likely. I say leave Soul Hackers 2 have a chance to shine.
Also, did you know that personas 5 the tarot deck is like $60! ? I had the Dungeons & Dragons and Urban Tarot together for around $40 – and neither are as ugly as the P5 platform. And there is still no full version of the P3 platform. Grrr.
To be continued…
