Better Call Saul actor Tony Dalton praises Season 6, calling it ‘out of control’

Tony Dalton, who is currently making waves playing Jack Duquesne / Swordsman in Hawk Eye, got his decisive role playing Lalo Salamanca in AMC’s You better call Saul. First introduced in Season 4 as a recurring character, Lalo quickly became one of the main antagonists in the series. The sixth and final season of You better call Saul had a tumultuous production due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the collapse of Bob Odenkirk on the set. However, You better call Saul Filming for Season 6 is drawing to a close and fans are eager to see what will likely be an explosive final season.

Tony Dalton sat down with Collider recently to talk about his role as Swordsman in the Disney + series Hawk Eye. He was grateful for the opportunity and loved being a part of the MCU, revealing his intense preparation to play the character. Dalton also spoke of You better call Saul but didn’t reveal much. All the actors and the team of You better call Saul have been quiet about the coming season, and Dalton was no different. When asked what it was like to read the scripts, Dalton responded enthusiastically:

“It was very exciting. Very, very exciting. You have no idea what’s going to happen. It’s out of control what these guys wrote. Out of control.”

After the mind-blowing Season 5 finale, Dalton’s Lalo Salamanca seemed to have figured out who had betrayed him and would seek revenge. As for Bob Odenkirk’s incumbent crooked lawyer Saul Goodman (formerly Jimmy McGill), he dodged a bullet when Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) managed to dispel Lalo’s suspicion of him. Wexler was walking a dark path herself in Season 5, leaving fans worried about her fate. Another fan favorite character who fans believe won’t make it out alive is Nacho Varga, played by Michael Mando. His fate was left open after the failed assassination attempt on Lalo by Gus Fring.

Who survives? Who will break badly? We will soon know when You better call Saul season 6 will air next year. The last 13-episode extended season will be split into two parts, the same as the last season of its predecessor, breaking Bad. Better Call Saul Part 1 of Season 6 is slated to air in early 2022, and Part 2 in the summer. Other characters on the show include Giancarlo Esposito as crafty drug frontman Gustavo Fring, Jonathan Banks as crooked ex-cop Mike Ehrmantraut, and Patrick Fabian as Howard Hamlin.

Only two episodes and Tony Dalton has already wowed fans with his portrayal of Swordsman in Hawk Eye. The character was a mentor for Clint Barton in the comics and was also a superhero. It remains to be seen if Hawk Eye will establish Jack Duquesne as someone from Barton’s past. Dalton explained to ScreenRant how he took inspiration from Errol Flynn to play Swordsman.

“Jacques Duquesne’s character, when he was first written in the comics, is based on Errol Flynn. It was a big plus for me because there you can really grab a lot of material from his films and everything and get an essence of that swashbuckling, dandy, dapper kind of guy. And, I think that’s something I wanted to make sure I captured in character because all the rest is different than it was in the comics. But just sort of that Errol Flynn vibe kind of thing. ”

Created by Jonathan Igla (Mad Men) and with Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Alaqua Cox and Brian D’Arcy, Hawk Eye debuted the first two episodes on Disney + on November 24. The remaining four episodes will air weekly, ending December 22.
